THE WATERFORD COPPER COAST SEA KAYAKING TOUR |
|||||||||||
|
The Copper Coast European Geopark runs from Fenor to Stradbally in County Waterford. The Geopark comprises 25 kilometres of spectacular cliffs, rocky inlets of ancient shales baked and twisted by various underwater volcanic intrusions, intertwined with fossiliferous limestones and capped by red desert sandstones. The area is one of 17 designated Geoparks in Europe, the only one in the Republic., and gets its name from the 19th century copper mines that lie at its heart. Seapaddling.com has introduced the Copper Coast kayaking tour for 2005. This is an ideal way of exploring the spectacular cliffs and caves that dominate the area. See for yourself the work that Mother Nature has carried out over millions of years and try imagining that these extinct volcanoes that created the Copper Coast originated in the South Pole! The tour will visit the many caves and inlets that decorate this coastline and along the way we can see the remains of the copper mineshafts buried in the cliffs, some of which continue out over a quarter of a mile beneath the sea bed.
