Irish Canoe Union sea kayaking courses are designed by the Irish governing body to get paddlers to a proficiency level where they can paddle a sea kayak safely in a variety of conditions. Courses are certified upon the completion and proficiency level being attained.

This is a two-day introductory sea kayaking course and assessment. It is ideal for first time paddlers to learn kayaking as no previous kayaking or canoeing experience is necessary. The course incorporates paddling techniques, weather and tides, safety procedures, choosing a kayak and environmental awareness. There are both practical and theoretical elements and these take place in a learning environment that is relaxing and fun. Both days must be completed in order to cover all elements of the course and certificates are issued at the end of day two.  syllabus

IRISH CANOE UNION LEVEL 3 SEA PROFICIENCY:  Click for course schedule

This is a course with assessment which is geared towards people who already hold a Level 1/2 Irish Canoe Union sea kayaking certificate or have equivalent kayaking/canoeing experience.  The course is either a four-day or two-day course where the duration depends on the group’s paddling ability. The course is designed to increase your knowledge of weather conditions, enable you to assist in rescues and become a sufficiently proficient paddler to allow you take part in sea kayaking expeditions under the supervision of a more experienced paddler/instructor. The course also covers topics such as basic navigation, paddling techniques, rescues, weather and tides, safety at sea and choosing a kayak and equipment. Assessment will take place on the second day of the course when certificates are issued.  syllabus
