The Seapaddling
Club is an informal group of paddling enthusiasts. The aim is to promote
paddling through organising regular trips and expeditions for members.
The club members will meet on the water or over a beer after a day on
the water but will not hold formal meetings and there will be no secretary
or chairman. The club will be an extension of Seapaddling.com which
will administer it. Membership gives you access to organised trips,
lead by an experienced paddler.
As a participating club member you are expected to cover your own costs,
provide your own lunch, carry the most basic of safety equipment and
paddle responsibly at all times. The club will have an on-line bulletin
board for members to use as a discussion forum off the water. The organisation,
the provision of trip leaders, the provision and maintenance of the
bulletin board, etc. are carried out by Seapaddling.com.
The focus of the club is to get paddlers to:
o regularly use their kayaks
o meet other paddlers
o gain experience
o improve the safety of the sport and have fun
The activities of the club will include:
o Wednesday evening paddles during summer months and Sunday mornings
during winter
o Support for events such as triathlon and long distance sea swims
o Support for members who intend participating in kayaking races such
as the Liffey Descent
How to become a member:
Some paddling experience is required and ideally paddlers should have
paddled with Seapaddling.com before. Club members are encouraged to
obtain a skill level on par with an ICU Level 2 or a BCU 2 Star grading.
For certain trips and expeditions further skills and experience may
be required. Owning your own boat is not a prerequisite as boats and
gear are available for hire from Seapaddling.com at €25 per paddle.
Paddlers who wish to become members should be aged 16+. Trips and locations
will be posted on the website each Monday before the Wednesday trip
and each Friday before the Sunday trip. Members who wish to hire boats
and gear should text Mick before hand on 087 2686529.
Fees & Costs:
As with any club there are administrative costs to be covered. These
costs are covered by membership fees. There will be an initial joining
fee of €50 with an annual subscription fee of €50 payable in May (in
this, the start up year of the club, this will be payable in June).
Visitors:
Members who wish to bring visiting paddlers can do so providing that
the visitor has the required ICU / BCU qualification. Members will be
restricted to two visitor paddlers per year and visitor paddlers will
be required to pay the appropriate public rate for the paddle.
